The Moon Pool Children (Luna Bambini)

In the style of the Twilight Official Illustrated Guide

The Luna Bambini, translated from Italian as the Moon Children, (better known as the Moon Pool Children) are an extremely rare and powerful race in the FanFiction world of the Twilight Saga by BellaNessieCullen. They were unknown to most until the creation of Edward Cullen II, aka Eddie Cullen.

Physical Characteristics

They are a creature that resembles a vampire, though they were not created in the same way, they are often referred to as vampires as they survive on blood and are immortal. They are born as human and reach full maturity at age two were they resemble a vampire more than a human.

A child of the Luna Bambini matures in ten years.

Reaction to Sunlight:

The Luna Bambini have a very similar reaction to vampires, their skin will sparkle but not at the intensity of a full vampire. At birth the child’s skin will simply glow, becoming more crystallised as they grow until finally sparkling at full maturity.

A child of the Luna Bambini glow much like the vampire hybrids.

Beauty:

Just like vampires, the Luna Bambini and their children are extremely beautiful, somewhat even more alluring than original vampires. The moon pool children need a mate to procreate and so they are vastly more attractive to vampires and humans than any other species.

Pallor:

The Luna Bambini and their children are born pale and their skin tone does not change as they grow. 

Diet:
The Luna Bambini and their children can only survive on an all blood diet. Even from birth when they mostly resemble a human they will only have blood. The most prefered form of blood is animal blood, this is because the witches that created Esther used the blood of animals in their spells to make sure their creations would have control around humans and would not try to feed from them whilst they experimented.

Sleep:
They are able to sleep, from birth onwards. As babies they often sleep more often than an adult would. They do not dream but before falling asleep they will see every moment of their life so far. They do not need sleep to survive but sleeping does make the Luna Bambini feel rested and refreshed, often helping them perform better in physically exerting activities.

A child of the Luna Bambini requires sleep like a human does. They can go longer without it than a regular human but soon they will become exhausted after five days without sleep.

Eye Colour:

The eye colour of a moon pool child depends greatly on the parents eye colour as humans. It is random as to which eye colour the child will receive. When hungry the child’s eye colour will be a very prominent form of the colour, a brighter green than possible or a richer brown. When recently fed on animal blood, (the preferred and most natural form of food) there will be a red hint to their eyes. If a moon pool child feeds on human blood their eyes will be turned a solid red colour, much like vampires. They will have lost their original eye colour, although this is redeemable by being cleansed in one of the moon pools.

A child of the Luna Bambini have the same eye colour process, but often their eye colour is that of their moon pool parent, not their vampire or human parent.

Fluids:

The moon pool children are born as human babies, that includes all human functions with their own blood and a beating heart. These human fluids stay the same even at full maturity, their own blood is absorbed by the tissues and the magical properties force the heart to stop beating causing them to fully stop aging after two years. At this point the child will be physically that the age of their youngest parent, much like the hybrids. The fluids inside an adult moon pool child resemble humans, they do not have venom like vampires and although they do not need tears to protect eyes, in great amounts of pain, they can cry. The blood they drink, replaces the blood they lost when they reached maturity. Since they are not venomous, they cannot create vampires.

A child of the Luna Bambini has the same process but it is slowed and their heart does not stop beating.

Physical Change:

As mentioned, they are born as human babies after only two weeks in their mother’s womb. They grow at an extremely fast rate due to their blood diet. They reach full maturity at the age of two years old. At this point they will be the age of their youngest parent and will stop growing all together. Before this point any human change can happen, they may be born with blonde hair and it may become darker by the time they are matured, their hair and finger nails can grow and they grow taller and go through puberty. They cannot grow overweight in comparison to their height because of their all blood diet. They can sleep, before and after maturity, though it is not needed for survival. Most Moon Pool children stop sleeping after maturity. Their skin is soft and warm as a child, as they grow their skin hardens and cools. At full maturity it is the same as a vampire. Female Luna Bambini do not have a menstrual cycle; they can have children with another Luna Bambini, it is unknown if they can have children with a male human or vampire.

A child of the Luna Bambini has the same process but it is slowed. The mother will be pregnant for roughly five months and the child will be born close to human. The child will reach full maturity at the age of ten. Female children will go through puberty but not receive a menstrual cycle. It is unknown if they can procreate.

Abilities and Limitations

Much like ordinary vampires, moon pool children are born with abilities that exceed regular humans, as a child, they have advanced mental intelligence; their minds are far more advanced than their bodies. It takes two years for their bodies to catch up to their mind. Moon pool children, at full maturity can run as fast as vampires, they are also as strong. They are vulnerable as children and can be hurt but the older they are and the harder their skin becomes the more indestructible they become. The older they are the faster and stronger they become, they can even become far more powerful than an ordinary vampire, Esther who is three thousand and five hundred years old is vastly stronger and faster than any vampire, her hearing range is also a lot further, as is her sight.

A child of the Luna Bambini has mental intelligence that is only around three years more advanced than their physical age, their mind ages alongside their body and are only slightly more advanced than a human at the same physical age.

Immortality:

Moon pool children can be hurt at birth as they resemble a human child; the older they get the harder it is to hurt them on the outside. They can only be burnt to be destroyed, (with very few exceptions, the only known one being Lidiya Balev’s ability), much like vampires.  If someone can get close enough to do it as each moon pool child is born with a defensive ability but this ability often doesn’t manifest itself until later in the child’s life, leaving a new born moon pool child extremely vulnerable and in need of protection until it can protect itself.

A child of the Luna Bambini are similar to their parent it terms of being born human and becoming less vulnerable the older they are. However they are not necessarily born with a defensive ability as their moon pool parent is. It takes much longer for their ability to manifest; and it could be of any nature.

There are only three known true immortal beings (including all other supernatural species) and they are all Luna Bambini, first being Esther, the original Luna Bambini, as an original she cannot be killed, dismembered or burnt and has immunity from Lidiya Balev. The second is Allesandra Cullen, who as a child was burnt alive. Eighty years later she was resurrected using the magic of the moon pool and is now immune to fire or being dismembered, it is unknown is she is immune to Lidiya Balev. The third is Aleksander Balev, who died to Lidiya and brought back one hundred years later at the same time as Allesandra Cullen, he is immune to fire although doesnt share pyrokinesis and cannot be dismembered, it is entirely possible he is immune to Lidiya Balev since the moon pool seems to protect the resurrected from what they died to (e.g. Allesandra and fire).

Supernatural abilities:

Every child is born with an ability. How long it takes to manifest depends on the child. They are born with abilities often similar to their parents (if they have any at all) and at least one of their abilities is defensive in nature, whether it is to know when to escape, or a physical shield of protection.

Known abilities:

Esther Josephson: Aborbing and retaining power from others. She has hundreds of abilites at her disposal (See Esther tab for more information)

Aleksander Balev: Healing and personal protection shield. Aleksander's ability works much like his daughters Lidiya in that he can heal people close to death but cannot bring people back like Anelie.

Harvey Butler: Tracking and a sense of appending danger.

Edward Cullen II: Mind reading and mind projection and projectile shield that electrocutes anything that comes in contact.
Christian Wright: Copying abilities. His ability works similar to Esthers except he is able to use the ability straight after copying it. When he learns a new ability the past ones are forgotten. He can only have one ability at a time.
Elizabeth Cullen: Propels her attackers 100 yards away from her body.
Addison Wright: Manifestation of abilities. Addison's ability works much like her brother Christians, she can use an ability without having to learn it, and can use any that comes to her mind, she does not have to copy from an existing person. However abilities are forgotten when a new one is learnt and she cannot merge abilities like Esther.

A child of the Luna Bambini may take years to show an ability, or they can be born with them. The most powerful abilities known to the vampires came from children of the Luna Bambini, Lidiya and Anelie Balev. Every single child of the Luna Bambini has a telepathic ability but only works with their own kind. They can read each others minds but not other species such as vampires or humans. They can also join their minds, almost as if they are thinking as one person. These abilities work over thousands of miles, there seems to be no range. They cannot do this with their Moon Pool parent, it is only the second generation. They do not even need to be blood related as displayed by Lidiya Balev being able to read Holly Cullen's mind when she was a newborn baby. This certain ability has made Lidiya Balev extremely close to both Holly and Avia Cullen, viewing them as her sisters. Children born from two Luna Bambini parents are vastly more powerful than an ordinary vampire/Luna Bambini. Lidiya and Anelie Balev are described as manifestations of their abilities.

Known abilities:

Lidiya and Anelie Balev: Commonly known as the Life and Death twins. Anelie possesses the ability of Life and Lidiya of Death. They are each other’s counterpart. Lidiya can grant death to anything, even a vampire; they can be killed without fire with the only hope of revival being Anelie. However there are a few exceptions (people immune to Lidiya): Esther Josephson appears to be completely immune to Lidiya's ability, whether this is because she is her birth mother or an ability she has obtained in the past it is unknown. The second person is Anelie herself, Anelie's ability has a defensive mechanism that makes her immune to Lidiya's ability, she goes into a comatose state that draws all her life energy (blood in her system) and even stops her heart to make it seem like she has died, the only way to revive her is giving her blood to drink. The third possibility is Aleksander Balev, Lidiya's father, since the moon pool returned Allesandra Cullen with immunity to how she died, it is possible Aleksander is now immune to Lidiya. The twins train together to gain a better understanding of their power, the full extent of their abilities is still unknown.
Holly Cullen: Able to track objects to their direct location, works very much like her mothers ability. She sees the object in her head. She has only been able to succesffuly track one person before, her sister Avia. 

Avia Cullen: Communication with the dead, the extent of this ability is unknown, Avia has only managed to use it once to communicate with the witch Anne after she died.
Teddy Cullen: Teddy can merge his mind with anyone around him, much like all Children of the Luna Bambini (with each other) but Teddy is capable of doing this with all vampires or people he meets. Not only can he read their minds, he connects their minds so they can read his and feel each others emotions and deepest desires.
Jonathan Butler: Jonathan can manifest and control ice, just like Allesandra can control fire. He has very good control of his ability, as Allesandra mentions he can just it to either the miniscule amounts by cooling someones body temperature down or sending a shiver up their spine or create massive ice walls.
Ivana Balev: She is the most powerful Luna Bambini next to her sisters Lidiya and Anelie. Her ability is to manipulate atoms. She can take something solid and turn it into a liquid. She can change the very atomic nature of anything she wishes, including people. She can create and destroy molecules including living creatures. In a human she could cure illnesses/cancer by simply altering cells, she could also create cancer/illnesses in a perfectly healthy person. She can affect anything and change anything she wants.

Luna Bambini hybrids also have a chance of an ability.

Known abilities:
Sarah Black: Thought projection, this ability works over a distance and doesn't require touch like her mother Renesmee.
Allesandra Cullen: She possessed no ability at birth, however after her resurrection she manifested two strong abilities, immunity to the effects of all abilities and pyrokinesis.
Izellah: Izellah has the ability of persuasion, she can persuade anyone to do as she pleases, much like Chantelle's ability although Chantelle can control minds over a period of time, Izellah's effect fades if her subject leaves her presence.
Catherine: Her personality is addictive, she couldn't control this as a child and anyone who met her was infatuated with her, her younger brother George barely ever leaves her side, he is the most addicted to her and literally can't live without his sister. Her ability is extremely dangerous in the sense that if she's not careful with it, others could end up like her brother. Catherine was able to set her parents and other people free of their addiction after meeting her but has been incapable of removing George. It is believed he has spent too much time with her to be set free.
Adelaide: Adelaide has a similar ability to Sarah Black, only she projects her mind unwillingly, she has no control over it what so ever if she makes eye contact with someone, because of this she is very withdrawn compared to her other two siblings.

Creation Process

For a Luna Bambini to be created the parents must be heterosexual vampires and the mother must have had a child when she was still human, this pregnancy creates an ‘echo’ in the vampires womb when she is transformed, abling the magic of the moon pool to use this in order to change the vampires body to accommodate the Luna Bambini. The parents must vampires, no other combination of species will create a pure Luna Bambini and they must be in one of two places in the world, both are moon pool caves, one off the coast of Brazil on an island named Isle Isabella; the other on the south coast of Italy. There must be a full moon above the opening of the cave and the parents must perform sexual intercourse in the water for the mother to become pregnant.

It is also confirmed by the Witch Anne, a descendent of the creators of the Luna Bambini, that Esther Josephson, the original moon pool child must be alive in order for any future Luna Bambini to be created. Esther's parents were not able to create another Luna Bambini when influenced by the witches that created Esther, which led the witches to believe only one Luna Bambini can be created by any one vampire couple. However this is proven to be incorrect by Edward and Bella Cullen who successfully conceived a second Luna Bambini child one hundred years after the birth of their first. It is unknown why Abelena and Joseph could not succeed where Edward and Bella did.

Little is known about the creation process of the children of the Luna Bambini as there are many combinations that have not been attempted yet. Only three Luna Bambini have created children. Two of them male with a vampire female. It was believed this would also be possible with a human female until the discovery of the Luna Bambini hybrids (see below). If the mother is a vampire, it is not imperative that they have a child as a human.  The parents must be in the moon pool to conceive, much like the creation of the Luna Bambini. The only exception to this rule is if both parents are Luna Bambini themselves, at which point a child can be conceived anywhere, not necessarily in a moon pool.

Children of the Luna Bambini are created with the following (currently known) combinations (with examples, mother and father can be either species):
Vampire / Luna Bambini (Chloe Elliot and Eddie Cullen)
Vampire / Child of Luna Bambini (Khaleesi Holmes and Teddy Cullen)
Luna Bambini / Child of Luna Bambini (Sebastian Wright and Avia Cullen)
Luna Bambini / Luna Bambini (Esther and Aleksander Balev) (vastly more powerful than others, see Lidiya and Anelie's abilities)

The Moon Pools

The moon pool aids the creation of both the Luna Bambini and their children. 

They are extremely magical in nature. On a full moon; the moon shines into the cave from an opening above and the reflection of the water makes shapes on the walls and they can appear to be dancing. The walls sparkle as if made of diamonds and the water is the brightest blue possible. The full moon is when the magic is at its strongest, thus aiding the creation of the Luna Bambini only on a full moon.

The moon pools are sanctuaries for the Luna Bambini and their children, they are where they feel safe and protected. The magic in the caves can sense when a Luna Bambini or their children are within the cave and the magic has healing properties for the Luna Bambini. The Italy moon pool once healed Lidiya Balev of a broken neck, thus bringing her into consciousness, she would have otherwise lived paralysed for the rest of her life. The moon pool will also cleanse any Luna Bambini that enters it, causing them to glow lightly, this glow has been described as more beautiful than a vampire in the sun, This removes them of any injuries, scars or marks on their bodies. The moon pool also purifies the eyes, should a Luna Bambini have red eyes from feeding on human blood they would return to the colour they were born with.

The moon pool cannot cleanse Esther from her scars of the witches, those were done by magic and they are permanently on her skin. The Moon Pool takes longer to purify a child of the Luna Bambini as they are diluted forms of their Moon Pool parent, but it is possible.

Location: Isle Isabella off the east coast of Brazil and the south coast of Italy.

The moon pools also have resurrection properties. The Italy moon pool successfully resurrected Aleksander Balev and Allesandra Cullen years after their deaths.

Requirements for a resurrection: 
-A powerful witch from the same blood line that awoke the moon pool's power when Esther was created.
-Full moon above the cave ceiling.
-The first Luna Bambini. (Esther)
-The ashes or remains of the deceased.
-Blood of someone related to the deceased. (Not a mother or father, must be sibling or child)
-The Life and Death twins.
-The correct ritual.
-A life for a life. (The witch must be willing to die)

Luna Bambini Hybrids

There are a few known Luna Bambini and human hybrids and they are genetically closer to human and vampire hyrbids than they are to the first or second generation Luna Bambini. The only difference is the creation process. Luna Bambini hybrids can be created in various ways, the only variant that decides whether a pure blood Luna Bamini or a hybrid Luna Bambini is created is whether there is a human or part human parent. 

There are two kinds of hybrids, human Luna Bambini hybrids (rarer) and vampire Luna Bambini hybrids, depending on their parents depends on whether they'll be more human, or more vampire. The vampire Luna Bambini hybrids are just like regular hybrids and these are the most common kind where as the human hybrids are much rarer because they can only be created with two different pairings, they're far more human and age with the same progress as a human.

Various couples will create Luna Bambini hybrids if they're present in the moon pool.

Luna Bambini hybrids can only be created in the moon pool.

Vampire Luna Bambini hybrids are no different to regular human vampire hybrids, it is impossible to tell unless they are genetically compared. They can live on both human food and blood, they sleep and are faster than regular humans but not as fast as vampires or moon pool children. The chance rate of being born with an ability is unknown.

Human Luna Bambini hybrids are not much different from their vampire counterpart, only they appear much more human and they are immortal after the age of their youngest parent. They are very similar to Immortal Humans, only they are technically a quarter Luna Bambini, which means they can possess abilities. (Catherine and Adelaide) The reason Renesmee and Jacob Black's daughter Sarah Black was not a human version of the hybrids was because of Jacob's quileute gene. Essentially Sarah should have been an immortal human but the moon pool made her vampire hybrid instead. The Immortal Human gene will always make the genes dominant, creating a vampire hybrid.

The moon pool will recognise and heal a Luna Bambini hybrid, they are created solely by the magic of the moon pool. The magic reacts to either the vampire or moon pool genes present in the mating couple and impregnate the female with a 100% chance of conceiving.

History of the Luna Bambini

The Luna Bambini were created by three witches in the year 1500 BC. These witches were extremely powerful and had an influence over the moon. They found two vampires that were travelling from, Persia (modern day Iran). The male, Joseph had a passion for travelling and exploring, and the female, his wife, was Abelena. As humans they had two children, one dying in childbirth and one not making it past three years old. After the heartbreak of losing their children, they never tried again and the origin of their transformation into vampires is unknown. After they became vampires they travelled the old world. During their trek through Italy, the three witches, known as Satanists then, captured the vampire couple and performed many spells and enchantments on them using the moon's power before forcing them to make love in the pool of the cave. Abelena fell heavily pregnant, after losing her first two children, Abelena was extremely grateful to the witches for aiding the creation of her newest child. Joseph was not so forthcoming in allowing the witches to use spells on his pregnant wife. The witches kept the couple in the cave for the entire duration of Abelena’s pregnancy. When the child was finally born she was taken away from her parents and she was not allowed to see them. Abelena was in great emotional pain after the birth of her daughter, because she soon realised the witches never planned on allowing Abelena and her husband to raise their daughter. They did however, grant Abelena’s wish in naming her daughter Esther. Esther grew at an immense rate, during which time the witches tested her in all kinds of ways, leaving scars still prominent to this day on Esther’s body. Abelena and Joseph were forced several times after that to create another child but it was not possible for some unknown reason. When Esther was physically four years old, only two months after her birth, Abelena managed to get through the witches enchantments to see her daughter. Punishment for this was death. The witches burnt Abelena and her husband for disobeying them. They were burnt in front of Esther to show her what would happen if she tried to escape. Esther was held captive until she was physically seven years old. At that time she managed to escape and flee the witches. She survived in the forests and grew up by herself; the witches could never find her.

Years later Esther, now a fully grown adult returned to the cave she was created; seeing there, skeletons of the three witches and many books, spell ingredients and papers. She gathered everything she could and took them away to learn from them. She could not remember much from her early childhood with the witches and these told her all the results the witches had found from their experiments. Apart from the books and paper Esther had, there was one other book that the witches wrote their findings in; this was sent away before their deaths to their fellow witches in the north. It was this book that their descendant, Anne, 3500 years later showed to Eddie Cullen. One thing was very clear, Esther was the catalyst for the creation of Moon Pool children, without her they would not be anymore.
